research, education, and development in the kinetic arts and sciences.

Kinetic Awareness® Teacher Training Program     2/2


I.     KINETIC AWARENESS® EXPERIENCE
A.    Private sessions:
40 total, including those from prerequisites, 10 with master teacher MCKA
B.    4 Intensives (Note: 1 intensive also in prerequisites, plus 2 in observation)
C.    Advanced work (30 classes minimum)

II.    THE FOUNDATIONS
A.    The principles of Kinetic Awareness®
B.    Teaching skills: Introducing KA, structuring a KA session
C.    The later phases of KA
   
   
III.  READING THE BODY
A.    Body areas to be covered:
Spine (including lumbar, thoracic, cervical), head and face, shoulders, arms, abdomen, pelvis, upper legs, lower legs. These topics will each be covered in depth, including alignment, observation skills, application of KA.

B.    General aspects:
Breathing, Pain test, Structural imbalances, Total body systems, Injuries, Anatomy study groups.


IV.   PSYCHOLOGICAL INTERACTIONS IN KINETIC AWARENESS®
A.    The therapeutic relationship
B.    Emotions, the kinetic sense, and body language
C.    Touch in Kinetic Awareness®
D.    Agenda, projections and expectations
E.    Open discussion sessions (2 minimum)


V.    REQUIREMENTS TO BE PURSUED INDEPENDENTLY
A.    Anatomy
B.    Physiology
C.    Kinesiology
D.    Psychotherapy (Individual: 100 sessions, Group: 50 sessions)

E.    Resource lectures:
Presentations by experts in any field which has a bearing on Kinetic Awareness® theory or practice: 10 total, at least 8 different presenters, pre-approved by the advisor. Trainee writes a 1-2 page abstract of each.
 
F.    Reading List:
1/2 page of comments on each of the required books and a reasonable selection of the recommended books.


VI.   OBSERVATION AND SUPERVISION
A.    Observation of classes: Introductory course and 2 intensives
B.    Observation of private sessions: 6 total.

The trainee observes three private sessions taught by at least two different master teachers, each followed by a conference to discuss the session the last three sessions are taught by the trainee and observed by a master teacher, and also followed by a conference discussion. After 6 approved mentoring sessions the trainee and his/her advisor discuss the entire observation experience.


VII. ADMINISTRATIVE SKILLS
Trainees are required to spend 75 hours doing administrative work for the Center, such as helping with the newsletter, mailings, bookkeeping, advertising, etc. Details can be arranged with the advisor.


VIII. WRITTEN WORK
A.    Personal statement of KA experience
B.    Final project (with prior approval from certification panel)
C.    Summary and documentation of all requirements specified above




NOTES:

All of these modules are to be done with a Master teacher (MCKA)
This program is paced by the trainee, who should keep in touch with the advisor and request courses that she or he is ready to take.

There should be periodic meetings between advisor and trainee, and the fee for those meetings shall be set by the advisor. As the trainee completes requirements, these should be noted and documented is duplicate files kept by both trainee and advisor. The advisor initially chosen by the trainee shall supervise the trainee throughout the program unless a written request to change advisors is submitted to and granted by the Board of Directors.

Qualified trainees who have completed all requirements will be eligible for certification. When the program has been completed, the trainee submits all documentation and written work to the certification panel (three master teachers, chosen by the trainee). When the panel has had adequate time to read the materials and confer, they will make a recommendation to the Board of Directors, who has the sole authority to grant certification. A meeting is then held between the trainee and the panel to discuss certification.
